Back in January of this year, I helped to plant the first and only Native American and Indigenous Student Organization at Georgia Tech. We’ve partnered with some incredible student organizations from across the state of Georgia, and throughout the American South.
We’re seeking to grow an indigenous voice at GT, and bring resources, relationality, and responsibile stewardship to our North Ave Tech School.
Feeling incredibly
energized after the Knight Emerging City Champions Fellowship Kickoff in
Toronto, exploring how we can build better cities for everyone.
Hosted by the brilliant minds at 8 80 Cities, thanks to support by the Knight Foundation,
the central question that guided us was powerful in its simplicity:
What if everything we do in our cities was great for an 8-year-old and
an 80-year-old?
This question unlocked profound conversations on civic engagement, public space, and the right to the city for all.
To make space for imagination, we set the table for creation 🌱
Would learners feel more empowered and been more engaged in Arts and
STEM classes if they saw reflections of themselves in their classrooms
and assignments?
“I am not an individual; I am an integral part of the cosmos. I share divinity with my ancestors, the land, the sea and the skies. I am not an individual because I share a tofi (my inheritance) with my family, my village and my nation. I belong to my family and my family belongs to me. I belong to my village and my village belongs to me. I belong to my nation and my nation belongs to me. This is the essence of my belonging”
